Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
